Angelic stories go back to the Old Testament. There is no doubt Scripturally that angels exist. From Matthew 18:10 and Hebrews 1:14, we see that angels are assigned to protect us. Exodus 23:20; and Psalm 91:11 provide other examples of this. We are also told in the Bible that angels pray for us (Zec. 1:12 and Rev. 8:4). It is no wonder that these delightful servants of God are "in" with pop culture, as well as in art!
Angels are often pictured with children, but in fact, we all have our own angel. When we are in trouble or facing temptations, these powerful prayer-warriors are intended by the Lord to be there for us to turn to for help, comfort and support.
While we know that not all angels decided to serve God (the "fallen angels", Satan and his devils, can be seen in verses such as: Jb. 4:18; Is 14:12; Lk. 10:18; Jude 6; Rev. 12:4 and 20:9), the majority did. St. Michael is one of the archangels mentioned in Scripture, and his picture as defender is included in this collection that follows.
